While am I a big retrohead myself, I do hate that some games are expensive as all hell. For example, I was at a game store in Iowa that I pop into every once in a while that sells retro and modern gaming consoles. And I saw a copy of Pokemon black 2 there. The thing was, it was 100 dollars. While i do love Gen 5 of pokémon, it's not worth an arm and a leg, nor 100 bucks.

I remember when I made a video talking about retro game collecting was too expensive back in 2014. Oh, how I miss those days and wish I could go back to THOSE prices. (I also really should have focused on getting my gamecube collection back before things went bonkers.)

I worked at GameStop so 7 years and FEAR was ALWAYS $5 I never saw that game for more than $5... but when it became backwards compatible with no digital copy to buy it shot up to $70 or some shit. On Steam right now every FEAR that ever excised is in a bundle for $5 The only game I've seen to keep its price is the Burger King Games... The Fact Pokémon never dropped in value is fucking insane. I had to have personally sold enough Pokémon games to keep the world value low.

These days I mostly collect physical copies of switch games, which has a lot of fun stuff laying about. I am happy that there are a lot of switch ports of old stuff, I mourn that we could have gotten even more.

If nintendo and sega decided to start printing new cartridges and selling them at full price, the used game market would go down almost immediately. I for one would be beyond happy to buy a BRAND NEW NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, N64, PS1 ect for $99ish straight from the manufacturer and buy new copies of old games for $40 and pay the companies what they deserve instead of some asshat on ebay that wants to price gouge me to death, it would be a reasonable solution and would singlehandedly take down the 3rd party salesmen that feel the need to trade me a copy of Panzer Dragoon for a 2001 Honda Civic

In the case of the silent hill 2 & 3 unfortunately they lost the masters for those games :(

I guess it kinda depends on the reseller. A ton of people are over priced. The chase after the right price guy is reasonable. Has auctions on whatnot too it's more fair instead of artificially increasing the price. Let the people decide. I bought a bunch of Pokemon stuff from him I love Pokemon. I have to pay up a little.

I have so much regret having sold my Sega Genesis, models 1, 2, and a 32X with the spacer, and my small library of games. At the time I really needed money. Looking back I think I overreacted to my situation. Now I find that I wish I would have held onto them as now the price to get all that back is something I hesitate to contemplate.

I look forward to a day when video games are on a similar level with books in their proliferation with whole sections in libraries and reprints occuring regularly.like yeah original copies will still be expensive but I don't care if I'm reading the original draft of Frankenstein Mary Shelly penned herself or the pulpy paperback at my library.

Retro Game Prices blew up thanks in large part due to Heritage Auctions and WATA’s backroom deals. The entire industry is hyper inflated at the moment; I have zero faith in the stability of the current market. I simply don’t trust any “sealed” game. It’s not hard to get a shrink wrap machine and reseal any game with a decent box. To the point that you could even put a different cheaper disc or cartridge from the same console into the box, seal it, and send it in to WATA to have it graded. Not saying I personally have, but it’s easy enough that I wouldn’t trust any sealed or graded game to be the actual game it purports to be.

What about flashcards or burning CD and dvd?

I read on Reddit that the reason why people collect sealed games is for preservation I all I could think was ''honey if the internet's NES collection disappeared tomorrow their not going to you to get a copy of The Legend of Zelda''

Everytime I see a GameCube Game's price compared to it's PS2 port, I die a bit inside. Yeah, Sonic Heroes & Shadow are more functionable on GCN than PS2 but not by *$30*

i remember seeing Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness for GameCube when I was young in a random midwestern pawn shop for $15, and asking my dad if he could get it which didn't end up happening, which, in turn, causes me 150 points of psychic damage every time I think about it

This is a complete garbage take. Companies aren't obligated to continue to make their old products indefinitely. You're not owed this. Imagine thinking that Ford must continue to make 1969 mustangs for every generation. The price of games are based on what sellers and buyers are able to agree on. And how scarce or rare something is can play heavily into that. Just like how regular cars from the 1950's that only cost $5000 back then can go to Barrett Jackson and fetch hundreds of thousands. Why is this guy so mad about people wanting new or pristine boxed copies? I for one am glad that my need to keep my boxes and things has paid off Video games are this generations version of collector cars. Kids from the 80's and 90's have grown up, have some cash and want to buy those old things they had in their childhood. Some of these have become rare and that's part of why they are worth a bunch.

As a collector I agree with you I'm collecting factory sealed games from someone online I would not say since these people will completely ruined since I have financial issues in the past and I didn't get my 3DS at 13 and trying to get social services since I am mentally disabled if not I'm getting a job I'm also trying to save money to the things that I actually to give my mom some money time to time to get by we might get a settlement or saving money to buy a house if you a factory shield game by one save it for everyone wants to play or collect at affordable price it's just ridiculous that these people don't think about others who struggling in this economy

I don't know how you can level any amount of criticism at resellers. They don't determine the prices of these games, the market does. Simple supply and demand.

There's millions upon millions of copies of Pokemon games. The prices are ridiculous.

I got into virtual pets last year. And oh god. Sweet lord Jesus the prices for some of the devices are absolutely ridiculous. It's all thanks to the quarantine, which reminded people hobbies are a thing, and the unfortunate widespread of geeky stuff in the last years all thanks to influencers. Retro stuff went from a hobbie to a desperate collector search, which ruined it for people like us who are only interested in actually using the retro stuff, not just displaying it on ebay for thousands of dollars just for bragging rights.

I absolutely love Chesnaught's design, but I think it would be a lot more universally liked if GameFreak used its shiny colour palette as its base palette. It feels like a much more natural progression from Chespin and Quilladin that way. still forever my favourite of the gen 6 starters <3

Grading had always been a bit of a scam. Its like with trading cards. Its bad for collectors, enthusiasts, and people who just wanna play a fucking game. Resellers are also a pain to find in the wild. I recall thrifting around and found someone just scooping everything off the shelf of a family thrift shop. Theres still places out there with good prices if you know where to look.
